Dear Coventry Families;
February has come to an end in the blink of an eye and March is coming in like a lion with the wintery weather. This past week, the Grade 2 students did a wonderful job during the Pink Day assembly focusing on positive and kind messages. Pink Shirt Day encourages us to be inclusive, welcoming and supportive of our friends, family and community members. Ask your child how they are show kindness to others in our school community and the most important think they learned about raising awareness of Pink Shirt Day. At Coventry Hills School, we focus on building positive and supportive relationships with one another. We had many parents come to the assembly to be a part of our day of February 28. Ms. Dalton has returned to work and thank you to Mrs. Zapp who supported the school in her absence.
We had a great turn out for the School Council sponsored Movie Night as families watched the movie, Elemental. A huge thank you to our School Council and all the parents who volunteered to support this special event. We sold over 300 tickets for the event and people had a great time. There will be more information about the event shared in the March CHEFS newsletter. Our next School Council Meeting is on Thursday, March 14 at 6:30 pm in our Learning Commons. During this meeting, there will be presentations regarding Coventry Hills School Development Plan & Budget as well as a short presentation regarding our work in grades 1, 2 and Kindergarten. We invite all parents to attend this important meeting.
A New Look: A New Website for Coventry Hills School
We have a new website for the school and we invite you to check it out. If you would like to update your bookmarks, the address for the new website is https://coventryhills.cbe.ab.ca/. If you access our old website, it will automatically redirect you to the new site where all of the information from the old site has been transferred over and (hopefully) is easier to access. It will take some time learn to manage this new website interface and thank you for your patience in advance as we update information and post new items.
Save the Date: Student Learning Conferences
Student Learning Conferences are coming up on March 21 and March 22. On Wednesday, March13 at 6:00 p.m., the Conference Manager will open for parents to sign up for conferences. Conferences are set for 15 minutes time blocks and are in person at the school. This conference is an opportunity for teachers and students to share with parents their learning progress. We invite students to be a part of this conference in order to share their success and also to discuss their next steps in learning. Having students at the center of the conversation allows students to develop ownership for their learning, builds independence, increases pride in their learning as they share, identifies areas for improvement and allows students to share knowledge and skills learned. By sharing work samples and having the students’ present, parents can build an understanding about their child’s learning. Interviews will be held at the school on Thursday, March 21 from 4:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Friday, March 22 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Parents are instrumental in supporting their child’s learning and we look forward to sharing and partnering with you in your child’s learning. The booking system can be accessed through the MyCBE account tool.
Sincerely,
Benita Dalton, Principal
