Attendance

Please notify the school whenever a child will be late or absent. Leave a message on our Attendance Line available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Illness & Injury

If your child is sick please keep him/her at home until well enough to resume full day activities at school, including outdoor recess and physical education classes.

Sick children who are sent to school increase the likelihood that colds, flu, and other diseases will be spread throughout the school community.  Children who are healthy  enough to attend school are expected to go outdoors during recess and noon breaks. We ask that they dress for the weather so they are prepared. Our nurse’s room is furnished with one cot so we can only accommodate a sick child for a short period of time.

If there is an emergency situation with your child and we have not been able to reach you after trying all phone numbers and contacts listed on your child’s Demographic Report, we will call Emergency Medical Services (911).

Alberta Health Nurse

A public health nurse is assigned to the school by Alberta Health Services one-half day per week. She may be required to immunize children, or perform audio testing and vision screening. She can also be contacted by parents and teachers regarding other school related health issues.

Our school nurse, Kerry Duval-Small, can be contacted at the Thornhill Clinic at 403-944-7514.

Allergy

Food allergies can be life threatening. Each student and staff member with a severe food allergy will have an individualized emergency response protocol plan which aligns with the Calgary Board of Education Administrative Regulation 6002- Student Health Services

Coventry Hills School is an allergy aware school. The following websites provide up-to-date information about allergy awareness.

Lice

There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.

If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.

As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.

Additional questions or concerns can be answered by Alberta HealthLink at 811.
