Principal's Message - October 30 - November 3
Dear Parents and/or Guardians;
Next week is an exciting week as Halloween is right around the corner. On Tuesday, October 31st, Coventry Hills School will be acknowledging Halloween. For the day, we invite students to come to school wearing their Halloween costumes. Throughout the day, students will be engaging in learning tasks. For students’ costumes, we ask that students leave any loose accessories or parts at home so they are not forgotten for the festivities in the evening. In addition, we ask that costumes be appropriate for school and students do not wear masks or heavy face paint of any kind, include weapons, or have blood or gore as a part of their costume. As the students will be spending many hours in their costume, please send a bag in their backpack just in case they want to take it off to be more comfortable. Teachers will not be having class parties as it is a full day of learning. As a part of the day, they may have Halloween themed learning tasks.
The cold weather has arrived and students need to be prepared to be outside on cold days. We go outside in weather conditions up to -20 Degrees Celsius. Please ensure your child is dressed well. At recess and lunch time, we are reinforcing students wearing the clothing the parents send with them to ensure that they are warm in the cold weather conditions. With more clothing, we are beginning to collect a lot of extra mitts, toques, coats etc. in our lost and found. Teachers try to return items to students as quickly as they can if they are left in the classroom. For example, in a grade one class there was several items I attempted to return to the students but none of the students recognized their own articles of clothing. Please label your child’s winter clothing with their names. This will ensure that the students can have their items returned to them. In addition, if your child has lost something, please come in our front office and we can direct you to our lost and found.
As a part of our Professional Development Days, teachers have been working with the new Alberta Curriculums. Division I teachers (K – Grade 3) are working with the new Science curriculum as of this year, and the Math and English Language Arts and Literature implemented last year. The division II teachers (Grade 4-5) are working with the new English Language Arts and Literature and Math curriculums. We will continue to do this work to build our collective understanding of the new curriculum and apply this to our School Development Plan with a focus on reading, mathematical procedural fluency and well-being for learning. We look forward to sharing this information over the next few months.
Sincerely,
Benita Dalton
