Principal's Message January 22
Dear Parents/Guardians;
The warmer weather is on the way and we are so glad to see the students being able to get outside to play. Monday is the start of our annual Family Literacy Week as on Saturday, January 27th is Family Literacy Day. This year the theme is “Let’s have a family party!” Our CBE Literacy Specialist team has shared a variety of resources with CBE schools for this week. The school is planning many events over the course of this week that include classroom activities and cross classroom activities such as class buddies. Activities include drop everything and read, book tasting, classroom door decorating of a favorite book, and pass a book just to name a few. Check out your child’s Google Classroom for specific information regarding their class. This year, students will be doing special projects such as creating book marks and sharing readings this week with their buddy classes. Mark your calendars as we have two special dress up days for students to participate in. On Wednesday, January 24th we are asking students to dress up at a favorite story book character and if they have the book to bring it to school. We ask that students do not cover their faces by wearing masks or face paint. On Friday, January 26th for students to wear a shirt that has words/slogan on it and then students will be reading each other’s shirts. There is no event for parents to come into the school this year like we did last year. I have attached a link for 10 ways to celebrate Family Literacy Day. Ways family can celebrate Literacy Day
On our January 15 Professional Development Day, we continued our focus of working on assessment practices in our School Development Plan as teachers worked with each other examining the new curriculum and designing learning cycles with various types of diagnostic, formative and summative assessment tasks related to specific learning outcomes. Teachers are taking up the new curriculum and aligning the new curriculum’s learning outcomes, knowledge, understanding, skills and processes with assessment tasks. Melody Pelling, our school’s Director will be visiting our school this week to see assessment practices of the new curriculum in action.
School Council/CHEFS meeting is this Thursday evening in our Learning Commons starting at 6:30 pm. We invite any interested parents to join this meeting to learn about our school and how the School Council works in partnership to support and advance student learning. We have a special guest, CBE Trustee, Laura Hack will be presenting information and responding to any questions regarding the work of CBE and Coventry Hills School. We look forward to her visit, Nadine Guard, our Council Chair does an amazing job of informing our school community through the newsletters and emails sent out on her behalf. We hope parents join us for our meeting this month.
Report cards will be released on your child’s MyCBE account on Tuesday, January 30th. Please access your child’s report card by going to our school website and clicking the MyCBE account. Once in the account, click the grades tab. There you will be able to see the report card and parents can download a copy of the report card in a PDF. More information regarding your child’s report card will be sent out on January 29th.
Kindergarten Registration for the 2024 – 2025 school year opened up on January 15th. We understand there were a few problems with School Engaged that have now been fixed. If you have a child who is eligible for Kindergarten next year, we ask you register your child as soon as possible as it takes several weeks for Mrs. Armstrong to verify the applications and respond. Coventry Hills School has a status of “Limited Capacity” as we have a high enrollment for our school. Due to this we only accept registrations who are currently live within our designated area of Coventry Hills School. If someone is unsure if they live in the correct area, please feel free to call our office at 403-777-6025.
