Join us for Winter Celebration - “The Spirit of Giving”
December 14th 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
We are inviting all families to come and join us on Thursday, December 14th for a Spirit of Giving – Winter Celebration Open House. This year, we will be hosting several holiday activities that families can create together to give back to our local community. The holiday season is a time to come together to celebrate as a community and to be able to provide for those less fortunate.
Come and make some crafts to give to our neighbouring organizations, put together care packages for those less fortunate to brighten their winter holiday and celebrate holiday season as a school community. We will have up to 15 different activities for families to move freely between. Once you make a craft, you leave it with us so we can deliver it to the many organizations we are supporting.
Some of the organizations we are supporting this year are: Meals on Wheels, Newport Harbour Senior’s Residence, Calgary Human Society, Canadian Veteran’s, Inn from the Cold, and locale Firehall/CPS Department just to name a few. Our hope is to use to time to create crafts that brighten another person’s day. School Council/CHEFs is also providing some fundraising events as purchasing a hot chocolate/cider and photos with Santa.
In honor of the Spirit of Giving and taking care of others, we are kicking off our support for the Coventry Hills Little Free Pantry. Nikki Pike gave a presentation at our School Council Meeting regarding food scarcity in our city and for our local families. They are active on social media and have signs located around our community. For the Spirit of Giving event, we are doing a food drive for their most needed items and then we will continue to have a box in our office where donations can be made throughout the school year. To kick off this event, we are hoping to have each grade group bring items that the Coventry Pantry needs the most. Please ensure that none of the items are expired or are glass. For this one time during our food drive, we are accepting canned items that they use for their food hampers.
We will have these items on display in each grade team area. Our goal is to support the Pantry by bringing 500 items. Let’s see if we can reach this goal. We will be keeping track of the number of food items we collect. See below for what we are looking for. Each grade is asked to bring in items listed for their grade starting tomorrow – December 6th.
· Grade 1- Canned goods – veggies, fruit, beans, soups, pasta, fish
· Grade 2 – Cereals and oatmeal
· Grade 3 – Assorted dry pastas
· Grade 4- Bags/boxes of Rice, Beans, Quinoa, Couscous and Grains
