Dear Coventry Families,
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend and enjoyed meaningful time with family and loved ones. As we reflect on all that we are grateful for, we want to express our sincere appreciation for the caring, supportive, and connected community that makes Coventry Hills such a special place to learn and grow.
On October 2, we recognized Custodian Appreciation Day. We are incredibly thankful for Mr. Jimmy, Ms. Loreza, and Ms. Jennifer for their dedication and hard work in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment for our students and staff.
While Mr. Jimmy has been away, Mr. Tek has stepped in to support our school community. We extend our gratitude to all members of our custodial team for the important work they do each day to keep our building clean, our learning spaces ready, and our floors shining.
World Teachers' Day
On October 5, we celebrated World Teachers' Day and recognized the exceptional educators who make a difference in the lives of our students every day. The teaching staff at Coventry Hills is a caring, welcoming, and supportive team. Our teachers work tirelessly to create engaging learning experiences, foster student growth, and help each child discover and develop their unique talents and interests. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to ensuring every student reaches their full potential. We encourage families to take a moment this week to share a message of appreciation with your child's teacher. Your kind words are always valued and appreciated.
Provincial Assessments
Teachers have now completed all provincial literacy and numeracy assessments for students in Grades 1-5. These assessments provide valuable information about each student's current understanding and development in foundational literacy and numeracy skills. The results help teachers identify individual strengths and next steps for instruction, ensuring that learning remains responsive to student needs and aligned with curricular expectations. More information will be sent out by CBE Communications in the next few weeks regarding the sharing of results with parents.
Orange Shirt Day
Thank you to our Learning Leaders for organizing our Orange Shirt Day assembly on September 29. Students and staff gathered in a circle to honour the importance of truth, reconciliation, and ongoing learning. Ms. Le led students in songs that had been gifted to her, including O Canada sung in English, French, and an Indigenous language, as well as a song that highlights the Seven Sacred Teachings. These meaningful experiences help deepen our understanding of Indigenous cultures, languages, histories, and perspectives.
As a school, we remain committed to learning on the land and incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing throughout the year. This year, we are exploring the concept of "noticing" and connecting it to “Kakyosin” – Blackfoot ways of Noticing” which is a principle of paying attention to the world around us with respect, curiosity, and gratitude.
Important Reminders
We had a full and productive week of learning last week. Families are reminded to regularly check their child's Google Classroom, as teachers use it to share important learning information, classroom updates, and announcements.
Thank you to all families who have completed their annual demographic updates and required forms through SchoolEngage. If you have not yet completed these forms, please do so at your earliest convenience, as schools are required to maintain current information in compliance with Alberta Education requirements.
Class Photos and picture retakes are happening on Thursday, October 22. Please ensure you have communicated with your child’s teacher if you would like an individual retake picture. We have class photos scheduled until about 2:00 pm.
Please read the lasted message sent out by our School Council and CHEFS. There is a family movie night on Thursday, October 22. Please find all the details located in their message to buy your tickets in advance to the event.
Upcoming Professional Development Day
Please note that Monday, October 19, is a Professional Development Day. There will be no classes for students as Calgary Board of Education schools will be used as voting locations for the Alberta referendum including Coventry Hills School.
Warm regards,
Benita Dalton
