Dear Parents,
This week is our Student-Centered Conferences on Thursday and Friday. Thank you for registering a time to meet with the teacher This is just one of the ways, teachers and students have the opportunity to communicate information about student academic progress and it is a part of our ongoing communication throughout the school year. These conferences are important as they allow parents the opportunity to partner with their child and child's teacher. Student-Centered Conferences celebrate student learning successes in relation to the learning outcomes of the Program of Studies and together plan for your child's the next best steps in learning to improve learning. These meetings provide a space in time for teachers to share evidence of individual progress and achievement such as student work samples, student assessments against established criteria, and student self-assessment just to name a few.
As a part of our work within the Calgary Board of Education, we are working to build an understanding of student achievement over the course of the reporting period, so that information communicated in the report card is both expected and easily understood. As a part of our commitment to this work, Coventry Hills School is now releasing student summative assessment information in Powerschool effective November 21st. Power Teacher Pro Gradebook contains individual student progress and achievement. Teachers will be using the Power Teacher Pro Gradebook to share information regarding your child's academic progress starting with Literacy and Mathematics. Teachers use this web-based application to input their body of evidence and report on your child's academic progress by uploading significant summative assessment snapshots as a part of a body of evidence that supports how they determine your child's grade on the report card. Your child's teacher may include items such as performance tasks, tests, quizzes, etc. that reflect your child's performance on the assessment. Assessments be in the form of triangulated evidence by having observations, conversations or products. For each assignment, teachers may have provided a description of the assessment assignment as well as the learning progression in the comment section. We hope this information supports parents in understanding more about the quality of their child's learning experiences and the report card grades that are shared in January and June each year. For viewing assignments in PowerSchool follow the instructions in the attached PDF.
You will need to access the MyCBE Portal through our school website and enter your Account information as prompted.
